The Clay Hills of western North Dakota are not far from the Teddy Roosevelt National park. While out early one morning walking the Clay Hills I came across this spectacular scene of Prickly Pear cactus clinging to a steep clay bank. I could not help but wonder what President Roosevelt thought when he first encountered western North Dakota. The landscape must have captured his heart as he establish a ranch not from this location.
