Winter light in the evening gives the landscape a simultaneous appearance of feeling both warm and cool. It is a strange sight to see warm light dancing on cold snow. To render that feeling in an oil painting is equally strange and ironic. Logic tells us that snow in a landscape is cold, but when warm light touches snow it visually changes the appearance and the cold snow takes on the artificial coat of warmth.
